You've got me floored

Behold, for we were able to move back into our bedroom this weekend. More planks of shiny cherrywood laminate were locked into place, and piece by piece, our new floor was brought into being.
I am thankful for father-in-laws, and for dogged husbands. I am also thankful for mother-in-laws, (specifically, mine) who came over to help pull approximately 500 million staples out of the to-be-reupholstered couch while Patrick and my father-in-law worked on the floor. So, while The Guys measured and re-measured, cursed and cut and sweated, The Girls sipped tea and wielded needlenose pliers like no one's business. It was a good day. Long, but good.

This was the before picture-- pretty sad, considering we've lived in this house for three years. Pretty impressive, considering there was a gaping hole in the ceiling over the bed when Patrick bought the house, and no paint on the walls, and ugly beige carpet on the floor.

And now, post-floor. I still have a very, very long way to go before our bedroom is the beautiful, cozy room I know it can be. For the past three years, I've resolutely poured time and money and energy into just about every room of the house--except the bedroom. Poor, neglected bedroom. Time to rectify this situation. Anyone have any decor ideas? On my list: curtains, stuff on the walls, matching bedside lamps, and a big mirror to hang above my dresser. At some point I'd like to ditch the totally character-less Ikea bedroom set for... mmm... maybe an antique four-poster, a vanity with a hinged mirror, and a bow-front cherry dresser for Patrick. Hey, as long as you're wishing, you might as well go all the way, right?

Right.

The floor turned out gorgeous. Also, we have a giant wood mirror in our basement that came with the house. If you wanna take a look at it, and like it, it's yours. Let me know, love.

Nice floor!

You want some ideas, really? Cause I always have ideas :)

I'm thinking hack up the Ikea bed and lose the nightstands (I think they're attached, maybe not). Pick up two little tables (they don't need to match) for super cheap at the thrift store and spray paint them - these are your new, make-do, nightstands. Add super cheap matching lamps. Then center the whole thing on the windows.

But it's just an idea :)

Alanna rose,
I was thinking more along the lines of selling the Ikea set-- it's all fairly newish and still in good shape. Centering the bed on the windows is a terrific idea-- one that wasn't feasible before, due to this weird rolly table thing that went over the foot of the bed. We relocated it, and are much happier. Thanks for your suggestions!

Absolutely, you should dream big! "If you have built castles in the air, your work need not be lost, that is where they should be...now put the foundations under them." Henry David Thoreau

Looks amazing! I can totally see a four-poster in there. I share your zeal for dreaming of future furnishings! Someday hubby and I will be able to pass on our hand-me-downs. *dreamy sigh*

Fabulous job on the floor!! I am jealously impressed.

I betcha could sell your bed set on the CraigsList* and have enough to get a new one along with side tables and lamps. Be sure to splurge on the mattress set though.

*What size is it? If you and I lived closer I would seriously consider buying it!

Becky-- It's a queen size bed, with matching dressers. We have a memory foam mattress (sigh!) that we'll be keeping.

It's exciting that you think I might be able to swap my Ikea stuff for funky antique stuff-- I was sorta thinking I'd be able to pull that off, too! :)

Thanks for your visit and comment on my post! ^_^

Maybe you can add character to your bed by installing some handmade four poster and nest on it just like the one you liked in my post. ^_^ I am impressed with your bedroom. congratulations! and i wish we had thrift stores here too! ^_^
