Celebrating

In winter, just getting home from work before sunset is a big deal. Yesterday afternoon, driving home, I watched as the cloud cover slowly pulled out and slipped away over the horizon. And the most amazing thing happened: sunshine. Warm, lovely, reddish glowing sunshine spilled over everything, collecting on edges and corners and shiny places. And it was beautiful.

It's February, and sunny. Take nothing for granted.

I grabbed Patrick, and off we went, to shiver by the river in the waning light. I was joyfully, supremely happy: I had fleece-lined mittens, and a down jacket, and a husband, and my breath making big puffy clouds in front of me.

And winter sun on back, and days which will only get longer for quite awhile, and spring, and it's all there to be looked-forward-to...

I love this time of year. Really.

I love this time of year too. Because it is the best part of winter. The "summer upslope" part of winter. Where you can enjoy it because you are positive that eventually it will give way to spring flowers and warmth. I love your pictures!

Thank you! It's nice to be able to look forward to so much, isn't it?

I wrote a very similarly happy post about yesterday too. It was so warm here! Today: blizzard. And I chose to wear moccasins to school. Oh well. :) Your pictures remind me that I need to get my feet into the woods again, but with some sort of better suited footware.

By the way, I bought this ADORABLE vintage curtain and thought of you. It's now a tablecloth.

Emily-- that's awesome! (The tablecloth, not the moccasins.) Hope your toes survive the cold-- we're getting lots of snow tonight, too.

I was so excited last week when I realized that it was still light out at 6pm!

It's all about the little things, isn't it?
