The good, the bad, the ugly

The good: 9 5/8s yards of home decorator weight linen. Regular price: $49.95 / yd. My price: $3 / yd. Yee.
The bad: a shapely though very dog-worn sofabed gifted to us by Patrick's parents, the Airedale owners.

The ugly: Holes, holes, holes.

The plan: Re-upholstery. And behold, for I have never re-upholstered anything. This is my best attempt:

Oh, if only it was that easy.

I was seriously bouncing up and down at the cutting table when they put this fabric on the rollers and determined there was probably enough for a full-size couch. Lately I've been really into this palette: rust, turquoise, and lots of muted yellows and greens in between. And there are birds on it, too. See the birds?

Pete, for his own part, seems to like it. And we all know Pete's approval is important.

Stay tuned for an epic re-upholstery project sometime in the next... two months.

Yikes! I've threatened to reupholster things, but I've never actually tried. Good luck, I can't wait to see how it goes!

The couch looks like it is in otherwise great shape. I'm sure you will do a bang-up job of upholstering it. Also, you got Pete mid-meow. Those are some of my most favorite shots!

Andplusalso, if you run out of the fabric on the base of the couch, you could always do matching fabrics for the cushions and pillows. Just my two cents worth.

my darling husband "reupholstered" our old couch once. if you'd like to talk to him about what not to do i'm sure he'd love to share. hahaha. it was a great attempt and the couch was a POS anyway. And that's how I got my big beautiful green monster! :)

Awesome, I didn't know Nick had tackled a reupholstery job before. The man does everything.

I've had a marvelous sofa for 26 years. I will NOT give it up! everyone else loves it too. Many a friend has napped there.

I recovered it myself about 4 years ago. I made Tiki print (black background) fitted covers for the back cushions - not too bad since I do that for a living.

Covered the seat cushion (fitted) with a black love seat sized slip cover.

THEN I attacked the body of the sofa with a sofa sized black slip cover and a staple gun. If you flipped it upside down you would pee your pants laughing! But I started in the middle and worked my way out. On the arms I had to tuck and sew to secure it. No one could believe it!!

I know YOU will be able to do a great job. The fabric is gorgeous!

Good luck! This is a project that I've actually undertaken with some sucess! I think because my version involves no sewing and lots of uphulostry staples! However, with couch cushions...you probably need to sew, so I'm out on this one! Good luck!
