The new desk is finally...
...done! And I'm delighted. Considering I mixed the paint in the basement, dumping together a little of this and a little more of that until I shrugged and gave up... I think I got pretty lucky. It seems to be a color that's pretty friendly towards bright yellow walls, and also to red apples in white bowls. A good thing.
Unfortunately, my whole motivation for the project was to have a place to put my bread machine... but now that the desk is done, I'm not sure I want to cover it up with an appliance. Anyone have any clever small-appliance concealing tricks?

Gorgeous! It looks fab with the other colors in your house... what about just putting the bread maker on the floor underneath on one of those little planks of wood with wheels so you can wheel it in and out easily? Would steam damage the bottom of the desk?

Maybe make a fabric cover for the machine so it could blend in.

I too think a pretty fabric cover would be a nice way to "hide" a bread maker.
you could find(or make) a wooden booc tocoer the bread maker, andpaint it to match the table? if you put it to one side, you could still hae pretty stuff on the other bit? sort of like an old sewing machine table box?

Do you remember the cool old whiskey crate that was on top of the bookshelf on Utica? Did you end up with that? Some sort of antique crate might be the perfect cover for an appliance, if you aren't into making a quilted bread machine cover- Which could also be lovely- I could almost see a lace cover with quilting inside.
