This little beauty

I coerced Patrick out into the cold yesterday for a little sleuthing. We made a circuit of a few favorite antique/furniture stores, and came home with this.

I fell in love with it immediately-- the chipped finish, the little keyhole, the dovetailing-- and immediately mustered all my sweetness and temerity to ask for 25% off. And then we drove it home, Patrick carried it into the living room and set it down.

There was just one problem, though. The view above is how it sat in the store-- drawers on top. But it didn't take me long-- no, not long at all-- to realize that the way it was really meant to be is like this.

Oh, so what if the keyhole is upside down! Situated this way, what we have here, I do believe, is a someday future medicine cabinet. Anyone with me here?

Perfect little drawers for toothpaste and soaps and Patrick's electric razor. Perfect little paneled door waiting to be fitted with a mirror. Very, very puzzling shelf inside with varying holes and slots cut for some previous owner's mysterious purpose.

And yes, that perfect keyhole. (This is the right-side up view.) Who could resist turning a skeleton key to retrieve a cough drop or a q-tip?

Not me, that's who.
