While it lasts...

Take some time today, if you are someplace where it is spring right now, and imagine winter. Close your eyes. Remember the barren, crusty ice that covered your lawn, the knife-edged winter wind, the dearth of colors and smells and sounds that comprised an ordinary winter day. Now, open your eyes, and be ever-so-grateful.

Here there are flowers, and fresh green leaves, birdsong and dappled shade. There is suddenly so much to take pleasure in, so much to enjoy. So many little gifts.

We're heading into summer, that time of year where it's easy to pretend warm days, sunshine, and green grass won't ever end. It gets tempting to believe it will last forever. Every year, sometime in mid-July, I realize with a shock that I've slipped into taking it for granted. And every year, I vow to be more mindful, to really savor this glorious time of year. Reminding myself of winter makes me all the more in awe of spring.

Have a good weekend, everyone!

Hello Miss!! Why thank you for stopping by my blog :) I very much like yours. And this post makes me wish I had a garden and didn't live in an apartment!

My thoughts exactly! Every single day I'm thankful for spring when I look at my backyard and garden. Plus it's so lovely to go out there and see else has popped up! We're lucky enough to have gorgeous trees around us, and they're just a sight to behold :D

Beautiful pictures! I envy your ability to grow things! The most I can manage is some sweet peas and potatoes!

Thank you for the comment! I used some of it to make peanut butter choc chip cookies, and they are amazing!

Sarapirat-- Glad you like what you see here. Fiddleheads are baby ferns, and oftentimes grocery stores will carry them for a few weeks in the springtime. You can also pick them yourself, from wild ferns, if you catch them at the right time. They're tasty!

Thank you for your comments on my blog! I really love your blog. Your thoughts resemble mine right now. Every day I look out the window at the big maple in the front yard and think, "Wow, I love leaves!" As I get older I grow more childlike in my appreciation of nature. I plant seeds in pots in the part of winter where everyone begins to wonder if spring will ever come. I'm just amazed to watch tiny seeds sprout tiny leaves that soon become tall stems with buds. Last year, my mom sent me sweet pea seeds through the mail. I didn't know they were vines! After three weeks of watching these plants grow, I finally did discover that they could grow to well over 4' tall. So, I taped yarn to the top of the window sill and watched the sweet pea vines grow up the yarn. What fun!
